A highly aromatic, evergreen shrub with needle-like leaves and savory flavor.
Rosemary is a robust, drought-resistant perennial that offers beautiful structural growth and intensely fragrant foliage. It requires excellent drainage and plenty of sunlight, eventually growing into a woody shrub that can be harvested year-round. Its strong, pine-like flavor pairs perfectly with roasted root vegetables, poultry, and artisanal breads.
Light
Needs full sun, at least 6 to 8 hours a day, and does best in the brightest spot you have. It handles Pakistan's summer sun well once established.
Water
Rosemary prefers its soil on the dry side. Water only when the top 2 to 3 cm is dry, roughly once a week in summer and every 2 weeks in cooler months, and never leave it standing in water.
Humidity
Likes moderate to low humidity, around 40 to 50 percent, with good airflow. Too much damp air invites mildew, so through Karachi's humid months keep it in an open, sunny spot and avoid wetting the foliage.
Temperature
Loves warmth and handles Pakistan's summers well once established, growing from about 10 to 38 C. In 35 C+ weather a little afternoon shade keeps pots from overheating, and plants should be protected from frost on cold northern nights. Seed is slow and uneven, so sow in autumn or early spring and allow several weeks.

Soil
Light, gritty, very well drained soil in the dry to medium range, with a pH around 6 to 7. A mix of garden soil, coarse sand or perlite and a little compost works well, or use a cactus type mix in a terracotta pot.
Fertilizer
Needs very little. A slow release or organic fertiliser in late winter or early spring is enough, as too much nitrogen gives soft growth that attracts sap sucking pests.
