A versatile, fresh-tasting garnish and essential culinary herb for everyday cooking.
Parsley is a vigorous biennial herb that produces lush, bright green foliage with a clean, slightly peppery taste. It grows well in both full sun and partial shade, making it a highly adaptable addition to herb gardens and pots. Beyond being a simple garnish, it is a nutritional powerhouse used globally to brighten up sauces, marinades, and fresh salads.
Light
Does well in bright light with 6 or more hours of sun, and also tolerates partial shade. In the hot months give it afternoon shade, as parsley wilts and bolts under harsh summer sun.
Water
Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist, roughly 2.5 cm of water a week, watering when the top 2 to 3 cm dries. It dislikes both drought and soggy soil, so make sure the pot drains well.
Humidity
Average humidity is fine. Water near the base and avoid wetting the leaves late in the day, since damp foliage in humid weather can bring on leaf spot.
Temperature
Grows well from about 8 to 32 C and survives light frost in the north. In 35 C+ weather it carries on in partial or afternoon shade with steady watering, though it may flower sooner. Seed is slow to germinate, often 2 to 4 weeks, so sow in autumn or spring.

Soil
Loamy, well drained soil rich in organic matter suits it. Use a pot at least 30 cm deep for the long taproot, filled with garden soil, compost and a little cocopeat for moisture balance.
Fertilizer
A balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every 4 to 6 weeks keeps the foliage lush. Alternatively mix compost into the soil at planting and side dress once or twice in the season, watering well after feeding.
