Seeds
A striking, heat-tolerant loose-leaf lettuce with deep red, frilly edges.
Mino Early' is a highly regarded Japanese Daikon variety that matures quickly, producing long, tapered roots that can reach over a foot in length. The flesh is incredibly crisp, juicy, and mild, lacking the harsh bite of smaller spring radishes. It is an essential ingredient in Asian cooking, excellent for fermenting into kimchi, grating into dipping sauces, or slicing fresh for a hydrating crunch.
Light
Prefers full sun for at least 6 hours a day, though it tolerates a little shade. With too little light it makes leafy tops and thin roots.
Water
Keep moisture steady, since irregular watering gives woody, pithy or fiery roots. Water deeply once or twice a week, more often in warm spells.
Humidity
Fine in average humidity. Thin seedlings early so air can pass between them, and avoid wetting the foliage in the evening.
Temperature
Happy from roughly 8 to 32 C, and in 35 C+ heat it needs shade and plenty of water, though roots get sharper. Seed will not germinate in soil above about 35 C, so sow from September to January on the plains. 'Mino Early' matures quickly, and its long roots need a deep, loose bed or a tall pot.

Soil
Loose, free draining, stone free soil with a little compost. Break up any crust, because compacted soil gives forked, misshapen roots. Daikon roots can reach over 30 cm, so dig deeply.
Fertilizer
Needs very little feeding. A balanced fertiliser mixed in before sowing is enough, since extra nitrogen gives leafy tops and small roots.
