Mangaves
A compact, low-growing hybrid with silver-gray leaves heavily speckled with red spots.
Origin: Developed by Hans Hansen at Walters Gardens in Michigan, this patented hybrid (PP32070) is a cross between Agave and Manfreda.
Botanical Characteristics:
Form: Grows as a symmetrical rosette reaching 4 to 6 inches in height and 12 to 14 inches in width. The leaves are thick and feature pronounced marginal teeth ending in a terminal spine.
Colorway: The foliage has a silver-gray base covered in distinctive red spots and flecks.
Grower & Propagation Notes: Requires full sunlight and well-drained soil with dry-to-average moisture levels. It is cold-hardy only to USDA zones 9 through 11 and will rot in standing water. Propagation is done through commercial tissue culture or manual division of offsets.
Light
Blast it with full, direct sunlight to indirect bright light all day to trigger and maintain their ideal color
Water
Drench the pot thoroughly, then completely ignore it until the soil is bone dry all the way to the bottom.
Humidity
It prefers dry air and low humidity, so ensure it has good airflow to prevent crown rot.
Temperature
It loves extreme summer heat
Pets and children
The sap contains calcium oxalate crystals, making it mildly toxic and capable of causing stomach upset and skin irritation, if ingested
Soil
Pot it in a fast-draining, gritty cactus mix heavily cut with pumice, perlite, or crushed gravel.
Fertilizer
Feed with NPK or slow release osmocote fertilizer once in the growing season.
