Seeds
Crisp and flavorful stalks essential for soups, stocks, and healthy snacking.
A foundational culinary vegetable, home-grown celery offers a far more robust and aromatic flavor than store-bought varieties. It requires consistent moisture and rich soil to produce thick, crunchy stalks and vibrant leafy tops. Both the stalks and leaves are edible, providing an essential savory base for mirepoix, stews, and fresh salads.
Light
Grows best in full sun, but celery does not cope well with intense heat. In Pakistan's warmer months a spot with morning sun and light afternoon shade keeps the stalks crisp rather than tough.
Water
Celery has shallow roots and needs constant moisture, roughly 2.5 to 5 cm of water a week, never allowed to dry out or sit waterlogged. Water deeply and mulch the soil, since irregular watering gives stringy, hollow or split stalks.
Humidity
Average to slightly humid conditions suit it, as celery began life as a marsh plant. Keep the root zone moist and water in the morning so the foliage dries quickly, which helps prevent leaf spot.
Temperature
Grows well through Pakistan's winter, roughly 10 to 30 C, with the best stalks in the cooler 15 to 24 C stretch. In 35 C+ heat it can be kept going in shade with plenty of water and mulch, though stalks come thinner and stringier. Start seed in autumn and allow about 4 months from seed.

Soil
Rich, fertile soil with plenty of organic matter and good moisture retention, at a pH of 6.0 to 6.8. Blend garden soil with generous amounts of compost, vermicompost and cocopeat, and keep the surface mulched.
Fertilizer
Celery is a heavy feeder. Mix in a complete fertiliser with extra potassium at planting, then top up with a nitrogen rich feed about a month after transplanting, easing off once the stalks start to thicken to avoid splitting.
